Research on Climate Smart Technologies to Reduce Women’s Drudgery and Time Poverty in Nepal
This research explores gender-responsive Climate-Smart Technologies (CSTs) in Nepal, India, and China, focusing on their potential to reduce women’s drudgery and time poverty.
The study, supported by UN Women, IHRR, and AEPC, identifies 161 CSTs across 25 districts in Nepal. It combines qualitative and quantitative methods—household surveys, FGDs, and KIIs—to assess socio-economic impacts, technology adoption barriers, and opportunities. Emphasizing women's leadership and inclusion, the study documents how CSTs like solar pumps, drum seeders, and biopesticides improve productivity, reduce physical burden, and create space for women to engage in other economic or self-care activities. It also highlights gaps in access, especially for marginalized women, and suggests policy recommendations to improve CST integration and gender-responsive budgeting.
