Himalayan Planetary Health Transect 2026
Himalayan Planetary Health Transect 2026
The 2026 Himalayan Planetary Health Transect is an interdisciplinary, field-based learning experience designed for undergraduate students from diverse academic backgrounds including environment, engineering, humanities, and health sciences. By traversing Nepal's varied climate zones, from Chitwan to Lo Manthang, participants will explore themes of climate, health, biodiversity, and restoration, gaining first-hand exposure to the acute impacts of climate change and the urgent need for sustainable solutions.
The Planetary Health transect is being organized in collaboration with Duke University, Duke Kunshan University, Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR), the Forum for Energy and Environment Development (FEED), and the Asian Mountain Academic Alliance (AMAA).
Nepal's diverse ecological gradient makes it an exceptional natural laboratory for understanding the intersection of climate change and human health and this program places students at the center of that inquiry.
