Er. Suraj Gautam

Suraj is a geo-hazard researcher working in the Nepal Himalayas. He is a graduate of Masters in Disaster Risk Management with a background of Civil Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus. He has a healthy working experience with the university, government, I/NGOs and private sector in civil engineering, citizen science, nature-based solutions, and disaster risk management. He is currently working as an Executive Director at Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction which is working at promoting innovations and science-based decision making in disaster risk reduction management. Currently, Suraj is leading a citizen science project VICTORY where he is turning an everyday individual into scientific contributions. He is also working extensively on the application of frontier technologies like UAVs and has been collaborating with multiple stakeholders for the science-based decision making in DRR/M. He is also designated as “Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) Young Scientist-2nd Batch (2017)” by the IRDR Scientific Committee. He loves travelling, networking, volunteering and leading change initiatives."
